Common Questions

What documents should international buyers upload to start bidding?

Individuals located outside of the USA only need to upload their government-issued photo ID and pay for their membership to start bidding. If you have registered as an individual you will have access to bidding on vehicles No License Required category. If you’d like to buy vehicles in other categories, you will need to contact a broker or register on Copart as a business.

Business buyers may initially upload business owner’s government-issued ID and pay for their membership to complete their registration as a business and later upload the following documents to get access to bidding on cars available to businesses:

  • Business license or sole proprietorship certificate

  • Taxpayer ID/VAT Certificate obtained from local tax authorities (if not eligible for VAT, provide a letter from issuing VAT authority confirming that you do not qualify for VAT at this time)

  • Notarized English translation of the above mentioned licenses and certificates (if not issued in English)

  • Affidavit for Purchase (filled out in English)

  • Multi-State Tax Form (filled out in English)
Download the form>> Download PDF Instructions >>

You may upload these documents via the License Uploader. Once your documents are reviewed 1 business day, you will receive an email notification confirming that you are now eligible to bid.

As a general business, you will be able to bid on vehicles available to individuals, as well as vehicles available to businesses. If you upload documents confirming that you are a dealer/ dismantler in your country, you will additionally get access to inventory available to dealers & dismantler only. See details >>

What are the auction fees for international buyers?

In addition to the lot price all buyers are charged auction fees which are included into the final invoice. You may find our auction fees here after logging in to your Copart account.

What are the payment options for international buyers?

The most reliable payment option for international buyers is wire transfer, but additional payment methods like credit are available as well. The payment should be received by Copart within 3 business days, including the day of sale. We recommend international buyers to send funds ahead of time to avoid late payment fees ($50 per vehicle).

If paying via wire transfer, please follow this 2-step payment process to make sure that we locate the funds timely and apply to the intended invoices:

  • Send the wire transfer following the wire transfer instructions. When sending the wire transfer, mention what you are paying for (deposit, upgrade to Premier or payment for lots) to help us apply your funds to the right category).

  • Send a wire transfer notification to buyer.ar@copart.com. Please note that the payment will be applied to your account ONLY upon receipt of a wire transfer notification from you.

  • Bill of Lading (from Copart yard to a port in the US)

  • Bill of Lading (from a port in the US to the port of final destination outside the US).

The sales tax refund will be added to your Copart account once the documents are reviewed.

If you are buying a vehicle in Arizona, Michigan or Washington, please contact member.services@copart.com AS SOON AS you find out you have won and request the documents that need to be provided in order to get a sales tax refund.
