The Airstream: An American Classic that Might Be Easier To Own than You Think
Some things are just unique, iconic, American. The Fender Stratocaster, the Harley-Davidson Motorcycle, and the Classic Airstream. They’re all about freedom, expression, and style.
To own one is to own a bit of the American Spirt.
For the Airstream, freedom is in every rivet and bolt. You can hook it up, hit the open road, and go anywhere you wish. Drive up to a lake, find a forest, or just see where the road takes you. Wherever you find yourself, home is right there with you.
An Airstream trailer is your chance to go exploring and find your own special corner of the country. Make new memories and dreams come true.
Now just in case a new one is out of your price range, used and repairable Airstreams are available on Copart at significant savings. If you have more sweat equity than cash for a down payment, a repairable model may be your solution. They also make great restoration projects if you want something unique and on the side roads, off the highways of normalcy and predictability.
We have some models that are just about ready to go camping with a little cleanup, like this 2019 Airstream Flying Cloud in Ohio. This model is still made, and Airstream touts it on their website as their most family friendly and customizable model. This particular one is available at a discount due to hail damage.
Other models may require a little more work, like this Airstream Excella in New Orleans that is configured with a nice master suite setup. It lost a window and suffered some additional damage. But with a little hard work and some new know-how, this model could be restored, retitled and give a nice retreat to a new owner.
The great thing about Airstreams is the exteriors are all built to maintain that classic, aircraft aluminum appearance. This means used parts you can repurpose to repair your mobile castle are plentiful. For example, this one might be a little too smashed to be a restoration platform, but it will happily donate windows, fixtures and other parts to a sister Airstream seeking new life.
Airstreams are also built modular to be easy to reconfigure and repair. That means you can even shop around for interior features like beds and couches. For example, if you want to relive the 70s with a little retro flair, we have a 1974 model that you may want to take a look at.
The bottom line is that if a new $20,000 to $100,000 Airstream is out of your budget, you can find one for considerably less at a Copart auction. Before you bid, you should get a closer look either by inspecting it yourself or engage a professional to give it a look. Also, be sure to check the title status of the trailer. If it’s “salvage,” find out your state’s requirements to get one retitled as roadworthy.
With summer and spring right around the horizon, an Airstream for auction from Copart could be your ticket to a long, relaxing drive chasing the horizon.
And if you restore an Airstream or take one on an epic adventure, take a picture and post it in the comments below. We love seeing what our customers can do with a Copart Membership and their own creativity & ingenuity.
