Grand Prize Winner, Chris Steinbacher of Portland, Oregon, awarded $5,000

DALLAS (Tuesday, October 4, 2016) -- Copart, Inc., a global online vehicle auction company, recently announced the top three winners of its Third Annual Copart Rebuild Challenge. The contest was designed for car enthusiasts and auto rebuilders to show how they restored, customized or rebuilt a vehicle.

“We were blown away by the number of entries submitted for our Third Annual Rebuild Challenge,” said Michelle Hoffman, VP of Marketing for Copart. “Our Members really showed off their skills and creativity by rebuilding both clean and salvage title vehicles.”

Copart Members from across the country submitted their rebuild projects for a chance to win the $5,000 Grand Prize. A panel of Copart judges narrowed the contest entries to 10 finalists, and then the public submitted thousands of votes to decide the top three finalists.

After the voting period ended, the $5,000 Grand Prize was awarded to Chris Steinbacher from Portland, Oregon. In his photo, Steinbacher depicted how he rebuilt a salvage 2013 Subaru BRZ. He repaired the front-end damage on the Subaru BRZ mostly in his driveway and added a Rocket Bunny Wide-Body Aero Kit, as well as new wheels, tires and a paint job.

Aside from his full time job as a software engineer, Steinbacher hosts a popular YouTube channel “B is for Build,” where he shows the process of his rebuild projects from beginning to end.

“I buy all of my cars exclusively from Copart,” said Steinbacher. “I think it really shows my YouTube fans that anybody can build a car of their dreams with a company like Copart and some know-how.”

The Second Prize winner is Jose Rodriguez of Harlingen, Texas, who rebuilt a Chevy Silverado. Rodriguez uses the vehicle as a show truck and has won various trophies with it. The Third Prize winner is Cristobal Castañeda of Rio Rico, Arizona, who rebuilt a classic Sunbeam Alpine and is storing the vehicle as a present to her daughter when she turns 18 years old.
