More than 720 tow truck businesses have started or expanded through Copart’s Truck in a Box program so far, and those businesses have moved more than 16,000 vehicles for Copart.
Let’s take a look at some of the questions we’ve most frequently been asked since the program started.
How Does Truck In A Box Work?
Participants lease new rollback tow trucks and use them to transport vehicles for Copart and serve other clients. Copart worked with finance companies to create special lease terms, and with supporting manufacturers to equip the trucks based on the operational needs of Copart’s business. We want program- eligible participants to have the quality tools and resources they need.
How Does the Program Benefit Copart?
Copart’s business includes the moving up to 3.5 million vehicles a year, and we’re constantly opening new locations. We’ve always been a company with an entrepreneurial spirit, so we wanted to help our like-minded towing vendors to grow with us and assist entrepreneurial drivers with an option to start their own towing business.
The program helps make sure we have enough transport capacity and allows us to grow our trusted vendor relationships as we grow as a company.
Who Is Eligible for the Program?
First, qualified applicants must work in an area near one of our 200+ locations where we need more vehicle transporters. Perspective participants also must meet certain financial and operational skills standards to help create a good fit. We want our partners equipped for success.
What Kind of Relationship Will I Have with Copart in the Truck In A Box Program?
Copart expects to be an important and reliable customer, but not your only, exclusive customer.
You’ll be a vehicle transportation vendor for us. We’ve used our operational know-how to bring together this Truck in a Box option so some of the key resources you’ll need, at the level of quality you’ll need them, are readily available.
To clear up a few common misconceptions:
-
You won’t be a Copart employee
-
Your lease will be with a third-party finance company, not Copart
-
Copart can’t guarantee how many vehicles will be assigned to you
-
Copart won’t provide enough assignments to be your only client
-
You will own and operate your own business with all the relevant risks and rewards
