Frequently asked questions

Copart connects buying Members and sellers of all types of vehicles in all conditions through our 100% online auction platform. Rental companies that are retiring vehicles from their fleets or have been in an accident are assigned to the Copart Rental Auction, which is open to registered Copart Members. Members must agree to Copart’s Member Terms and Conditions and upload all required documents to their Copart Member account before they’re eligible to bid. Learn how it works for detailed instructions on how to participate in our online auctions.

When considering a Copart auction vehicle, you should read the vehicle’s listing on our website and understand your responsibility to inspect the vehicle yourself, or arrange for someone else to inspect it for you. Copart’s Rental Auction listing includes the title type, interior and exterior photos, VIN number, auction date and time, and a detailed condition report that includes a build sheet, AutoGrade score, and a summary of the vehicle’s history.

If you plan on bidding on a vehicle that’s near you, you can inspect the vehicle in person; if you are far away, you can send someone local to inspect it for you. Either way, follow these tips.

Copart is a private wholesale auction platform that requires potential Members to agree to Copart’s Member Terms and Conditions and upload required documents. Anyone can see vehicle inventory on our website, but to bid and buy, you must register as a Business or an Individual Member:

  • Business: You hold state licenses, like a dealer, dismantler, or exporter, and buy for business purposes.
  • Individual: You have no professional licenses and buy for yourself. In this case, your vehicle selection will be limited, and you will only be able to purchase vehicles listed in the "No License Required" category.

Learn more about membership requirements.

Copart auctions are 100% online, and vehicles receive bids from our Members across the globe. In-person bids can’t be placed during our auctions because we don’t host in-person auctions at our locations.

To get started:

  1. Register for a Copart account, read and agree to our Terms and Conditions, then purchase a Basic or Premier Membership.
  2. Scan a government-issued ID and upload any business licenses required in states where you want to buy vehicles.
  3. Search and filter our huge selection to find vehicles that fit your needs.
  4. Join a live Rental Auction by navigating to the Auctions tab, at the top of any page at Copart.com. The Rental Auctions are every Monday and Wednesday at 11:00 AM CT.

Licensed auto dealers can apply for financing (called “flooring” or “floor planning”) from a third-party auto lender. Dealers often choose to finance the vehicles they win in a Copart auction so they can purchase more inventory for their business. When a financed vehicle sells, dealers then pay off the loan. Other benefits of flooring vehicles include:

  • Place higher bids
  • Bid on more vehicles
  • Win more auctions
  • Procure more inventory for your customers

Copart offers dealers the ability to finance purchases through a third-party finance company like Westlake Financial, AFC, NextGear Capital, and Kinetic Advantage.

Copart Members who win a vehicle in our auction have other payment options to choose from. Read all about them here.

Copart charges specific auction fees based on the final price of the vehicle, services provided, and other factors. You can see all our fees by logging in and visiting our Member Fees Page.

  • Copart Delivered: The easiest way to take possession of your vehicles is to use the Copart Delivered service to source a transporter to bring them right to you. Every vehicle’s detail page includes a link to get a shipping estimate to your zip code before or after you win a vehicle.
  • 3rd party delivery: You can also have your driver download the Copart Transportation App and then assign vehicles to them through the Payments Due page by selecting Assign to Transporter. You’ll need to input your transporter’s email address the first time you assign them a vehicle.
  • Picking up yourself: You can pick up your own vehicle at one of our locations by scheduling a pickup appointment through the Copart Member App. Please remember that you can't drive vehicles off Copart facilities for legal and safety reasons – you must tow your vehicles from all Copart facilities using a suitable transportation method.
